3D Scanning & Digital Portraiture
Generating 3D Geometries of the Real-Life Assets
3D Scanning overview
There are many processes that can be gathered under the umbrella term of “3D scanning”, including metrology scanners like Lidar, amongst others.
The two most common methods encountered in context of digital portraiture and 3D printing are: photogrammetry and structured light scanning.
Geometries can also be generated manually by means of digital sculpting in 3D modelling software.
Below are two case studies presenting the two later methods, as used by the companies I had a pleasure to be a part of.
Pet portraiture
Artistic 3D Modelling from real-life images, combined with ColorJet printing and finished by hand to create a bespoke, high-end consumer product.
Human portraiture
3D models generated with the use of Photogrammetry and Structured Light Scanners, combined with ColorJet printing as an example of “augmented photography”.
