VR Lotus・VR 蓮

Exploration of Organic Forms in Innovative Design Environments

VR Lotus・VR 蓮 is a part of a project exploring potential of virtual reality to create usable, printable geometries for additive manufacturing/3D printing.

This fireframe model of a lotus flower was created using linear tube splines in a VR environment using the Oculus Rift headset and a custom VR controller. It was later optimised for 3D printing using free and easily accessible tools.

The resulting model has later been 3D printed in PLA a Fused Deposition Modeling machine (FDM) and in nylon 12 on powder-based industrial Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) system.

Some Nylon PA12 parts had been later dyed black to compare the effects of colour on the depth perception.
