The Butterfly Effect

Exploring the Behaviour of Complex Geometries Inside the VR/AR Environments

The Butterfly Effect is a collection of 8 models that align with each other, creating the outline and filling out different areas of the butterfly wing. Each model corresponds to a different layer in descending order of precedence, the first forming an outline and the last corresponding to the largest patches of colour remaining in order to close the design.

The array of objects 'unveils' its hidden message when approached from a different angle, triggering the sense of curiosity and encouraging the spirit of discovery of your VR surroundings.

This model, originally designed for a London VR startup, forms a part of an ongoing study of potential of virtual and augmented reality to create usable geometries for additive manufacturing.

The projects draws inspiration from the works of Michael Murphy, the creator of the term “perceptual art“, and the founding fathers of the op-art movement.
