3D Printing & Jewellery

Direct Laser Metal Sintering and Lost Wax CasTing from 3D prints

There are three main ways where 3D printing can aid to the jewellery creation and/or watchmaking process:

  1. To create masters for the subsequent traditionally made moulds and cores;

  2. To directly print the sacrificial wax models and/or cores instead of carving/machining;

  3. By printing 3D models directly from file in precious metal, effectively by-passing any casting process.

The use of 3D rendering helps to visualise and perfect the product before signing it off for manufacturing, thus reducing the overall price of prototyping and reducing the overall production costs.

The added benefit of using the renders for visualisation of the customised products is increased customer satisfaction for being involved in the design process.

During my career I was closely involved with above applications, including designing 3d prints for EOS & Cooksongold Precious M 080 DLMS system.
